Where does paint go in McKinney?

McKinney collects household hazardous waste at your curb on your regular trash day, at no extra fee, for residents. Book online or call the city at 972-547-7385. Limits are 50 lb and 10 gallons per pickup, no container over 5 gallons, and no tires. Wet paint can't go in any roll-off dumpster.

Can batteries go in a dumpster in Texas?

Batteries can't go in our dumpsters. Texas law bars used lead-acid batteries from mixed municipal waste (Health & Safety Code §361.451), and Texas landfills can't accept them (30 TAC §330.15). McKinney's HHW curbside pickup takes up to two car batteries.

Why do tires, mattresses and fridges cost extra?

The landfill processes them separately. Texas landfills can't take whole tires unless they're processed, and refrigerators and AC units need their refrigerant recovered first (40 CFR 82.155). That's why each one is $50 in our dumpster.

Is bulky pickup or a dumpster better for a few mattresses?

For one or two mattresses, McKinney's bulky pickup is usually the simpler choice for residents; rentals count as commercial and don't qualify. A dumpster makes sense when the mattresses come with a whole room or house cleanout.
